Urban Expansion in China: Spatiotemporal Dynamics and Determinants

China’s urbanization has attracted many scholars’ attention due to its significant impact on socioeconomic sustainability. Many studies have explored the spatial pattern and effects of factors influencing urban expansion. However, spatiotemporal dynamics integrating temporal dimensions scales are always ignored. This study applied framework exploratory space–time data analysis (ESTDA) investigate expansion across 342 cities in China from 1990 2017 and, further, used multiscale geographically weighted regression (MGWR) estimate We found that had an obvious south–north division, yet usually showed east–west division. also dynamic local dependency was accompanied by a volatile coevolution process inclined transfer heterogeneity homogeneity, homogeneity tended be stable.
